Vespera Gathering and Crafting
Chop, mine, fish, and hunt without starving the forge or the War Chest.
Combat is the fantasy. Gathering is the reason that fantasy still has potions at 3 a.m. Vespera lets you chop, mine, fish, and hunt while Loop-Fight runs, then turn those nodes into weapons, armor, food, and flasks at the forge. Magic Academy sits on top as a town — the dedicated Magic Academy guide covers study jobs, Bestiary research, Mastery pips, and Mana Well refunds. This page stays on nodes and the forge. Skip this page and you will still clear the first hunt. You will also hit a wall where dungeons and the Tower cost more food than your bag holds.
Some veteran reviews say gathering, Spire, and Frontier stop mattering after a point. That can be true for a fully geared 1.0 character. It is not true for a new account. Treat this loop as mandatory until food, leather, and honing materials appear faster than you spend them. Then park it on the cheapest nodes that still feed mercenary expeditions and faction donations.
The four nodes
- Chop for woods and later exotic hides’ companion materials.
- Mine for ores, bars, and Eternal materials used in high Academy ranks.
- Fish for cooking ingredients and niche flask components.
- Hunt for meat, hides, and the leather chain.
You can fight and gather at the same time. That is not a bug. Put gathering on a node your Mastery already touches so the XP is not wasted. If you are about to leave the PC, start the node before you start a Tower reclaim; offline settlement keeps crafting-alongside-combat in the later patches.
Forge priorities on a new character
Craft in this order unless a quest literally blocks you:
- Food that auto-combat will actually eat.
- Health and mana potions at the threshold you set in the combat guide.
- The next weapon or armor rank your class can equip.
- Specialty flasks for Tower hazards and Nightmare affixes.
- Vanity and leftover recipes.
Idle Gamers published several recipe simplifications before 1.0. Nullhide Leather, Ghosthide Leather, and Everhide Leather each dropped to a two-hide cost, and the extra shard or fragment requirement was removed. If an old video still shows a three-item leather recipe, ignore it. Hunt the matching hide, craft two at a time, and move on.
Divine equipment can be salvaged for endgame mats: 1 Aberration Shard, 100 Aether, and 1 Divine Honing Stone for every two Honing ranks on the item, rounded down. Salvage previews show localized names rather than internal IDs after the 0.15.2 pass. Do not salvage a Soulbound piece you still wear; Soulwake only grows while the item is equipped. Details sit on gear and gems.
Magic Academy without going broke
Academy is a second skill tree. Cheap study jobs should always be running. Arcane Bestiary research on mobs you already kill is free power; queue it when the combat loop is stable. Mastery points for gathering and crafting are easy to forget because they sit in a town panel rather than on the class tree — the same patch pass that localized “unspent Mastery points” did that because players were leaving them idle.
Mana Well is the upgrade that used to look like a gold sink. Tiers 16–20 had excessive costs; 0.15.2 retuned them to a 25 percent step from Tier 15 and refunded the difference in Gold, Eternal Bars, and Eternal Planks, account-wide, across inventory and bank. If you played Early Access and overpaid, check storage for the compensation before you buy the next tier again.
How gathering feeds the rest of the wiki
- Getting started wants a node running before you log out of session one.
- Combat and offline wants food and mana potions for the 24-hour window.
- Dungeons want flasks that match Corruption and Nightmare modifiers.
- Tower and Spire want Aether, honing, and Divine leftovers.
- Factions want War Chest food and potions before the three-day Titan call.
- Mercenaries want expedition supplies so the bench is not idle.
If a system feels “dead,” check whether you simply outleveled the current node. Higher hides and ores exist. The leather names above are the late chain, not the tutorial chain.
Practical session plan
Open Academy, start a study, pick a node, then start combat. When you return, cook first, salvage second, vendor third, socket fourth. Do not reverse that order or you will socket a piece you should have salvaged, or vendor a hide you needed for Everhide. Use the in-game loot tables rather than a rumor. If a recipe still lists a fragment that 0.15.2 removed, update the client.
Caravans are a later presentation layer for journeys; new dispatches should use your current subclass portrait and any purchased Avatar Pack. They are not a replacement for the forge. Keep crafting.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers players search after the Vespera 1.0 launch.
Can I skip gathering in Vespera?
Not at the start. Food, potions, and leather gate dungeons and Tower. Veterans who skip nodes already have those pipelines.
What changed about leather recipes?
Nullhide, Ghosthide, and Everhide leather each need two hides and no extra shard. Older three-item recipes are outdated.
Where do Eternal Bars come from?
Mining, Academy refunds, and high-tier crafts. Check bank and inventory if you played during the Mana Well cost cut.
