Vespera Nightblade Build
Poison, crits, and dodge for the smoothest melee idle loop after 1.0.
Nightblade is the dagger class in Vespera: poison stacks, critical strikes, and dodge. It sits at S on the class tier list for a new 1.0 account because the kit auto-battles without a thesis. Apply poison, crit the stacks, dodge the hit that would have forced a potion. That sentence works in the first hunt, in dungeons, and on most Tower bosses. You still need food. You still need auto-conditions. You just need fewer of them than Warden or a starved Arcanist.
What the kit is for
Single-target bosses and elites are the dream. Packs work if poison splashes or your spender cleaves; if it does not, you will feel slower than Barbarian in a hallway. Dodge is not invulnerability. It is a second roll that auto-combat can waste if you park it on “always.” Use a health or incoming-damage condition so the cooldown exists when a Guardian slams.
Subclass trees should add more poison, more guaranteed crit, or more dodge. Unpublished names stay unpublished. Pick the tooltip that matches the last fight you enjoyed.
Auto-combat order
From combat and offline:
- Poison applicator until stacks are up.
- Crit spender.
- Dodge on a real defensive condition.
- Any gap-closer only if you are actually out of range, not every cooldown.
If the spender fires before poison, you are playing a worse Barbarian. If dodge is first, you have no cooldown for the boss. Watch one elite, then idle the same settings overnight.
Lifesteal engravings now apply offline. Combined with poison, that can replace a chunk of food on easy floors. It will not replace food on Nightmare. Craft anyway using gathering.
Gems, modules, Soulwake
Crit chance, crit damage, poison, and a little haste. One Attunement gem. Crown Assault is the greedy module; Bastion is the correct module if dodge is not enough. Socket the rest via gear and gems. Soulbound daggers stay on for Soulwake even if a rare sword drops with a prettier icon.
Mercenaries
A tanky or area-damage mercenary covers the pack problem. Keep the rest on expeditions so hides and bars arrive without you. See mercenaries. For Titans, Nightblade’s job is usually personal DPS plus not dying; donate potions only after your own stack is safe. Factions have the schedule.
When Nightblade feels off
- Stacks never stay up. Filler is not on auto, or the enemy clears DoTs. Change target or flask.
- You dodge and still die. Condition is too late, or the hit is a grab. Raise food and Bastion.
- Hallways take forever. You wanted Barbarian cleave. Stay if you like bosses; swap if you like rooms.
- You wanted traps. Warden. You wanted freeze. Arcanist.
1.0 expectations
No launch patch turned Nightblade into a different class. Offline engraving math and faster settlement are the reasons a 1.0 Nightblade feels cleaner than a July one. Official identity remains daggers, poison stacks, critical strikes, and dodge. Build that, then go touch grass while the daggers keep moving.
If you are still choosing a class, read getting started and come back. If you already rolled Nightblade, skip the identity crisis and push the next dungeon key.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers players search after the Vespera 1.0 launch.
Is Nightblade the best Vespera class?
It is the safest beginner idle kit on this 1.0 list. Best depends on whether you like poison bosses more than bleed packs or freeze rooms.
Should Nightblade take Crown Assault first?
Only if dodge plus food already keeps you alive. Otherwise Bastion Lattice on the Tower slots.
Does poison work while offline?
Yes, and bleed-style engraving bonuses apply on supported offline routes after the 0.15.x combat pass. Keep the applicator on auto-cast.
